Painted in 1901, the canvas embodies Nagybánya’s open-air ethos, a Hungarian colony that embraced plein air techniques imported from Paris yet rooted in Carpathian soil.
Ferenczy’s brush sculpts dapples of sunlight across water and skin, making every flicker of pigment a record of time and place. Shadows deepen under the tree, sky breaks into lilac haze, while poplars stand sentinel in the distance.
At once Impressionist and Symbolist, the work captures the fragile joy of youth, seasonal rhythm, and the search for renewal in natural surroundings.
