Giclée Printing

A sow’s snout flares red. Her tongue curls, wet and scarlet, and a single ivory tusk hooks the air. This boar-headed demon pulling a black rope filled a Tibetan tsakli card that was no wider than an open palm, painted in gouache by a monastery hand whose name the Himalayan wind kept for itself.

Her ochre body lunges right. Rust shadows pool beneath her breasts. A tiger-skin skirt flicks its soot-black stripes against wavy lines of crimson and teal, flame drawn thin as hair. One fist lifts the noose high. The other tucks its tail against her belly, patient.

Itinerant lamas once raised cards like this at arm’s length during an empowerment, and initiates fixed her shape behind closed eyes. Laid in sequence, a set became a portable mandala. Folded into a gau, one card rode against the chest across mountain passes.

Cracks web the malachite green corners. The lotus pedestal holds firm. In bardo funerary sets, a sow-headed noose bearer guards the southern gate, rope drawn tight around whatever drifts too near.
