At the Barber Shop - Leon Bonnat Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do. Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks.
High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones.
The matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural.
Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine, finished with ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision. Its natural white surface catches light and color with striking clarity.
A precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect.
Your choice of a black, white or natural frame: all made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts.
Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years.
Neo pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free. Meeting the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications, Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
About the Artwork
The seated man in Léon Bonnat's 1872 canvas At the Barber's Shop gives the picture its center of gravity: bare feet drawn up onto a woven mat, hands clasped low near his ankles, head bowed to receive the barber's blade.
Bonnat, an academically trained painter absorbed by North African subjects after his own travels, builds this Orientalist genre scene around bodily patience, stillness held in bent knees and folded hands. His client's striped indigo wrap falls in heavy, unbroken folds, the fabric's horizontal bands echoing the striped matting beneath him. Behind, the standing barber becomes almost incidental, his white tunic and ochre turban reduced to a pale column against the plaster wall.
What Bonnat records instead is submission as posture, the shoulders rounded and spine curved as toes press into rough straw fiber. Leather slippers lie on the bare floor, marking the moment this man stepped out of the busy world beyond the barber's door and into the stillness of tender grooming. It is a portrait of waiting rendered with the same rigor academic painting once reserved for saints and generals.
