Their jacket is tailored with the precision of a changshan but adorned with intricate phoenix-feather filigree—fusing imperial opulence with the makeshift glamour of underground Chinatown drag balls. A scarf, soft as a lover’s parting sigh, loops around their throat—a relic of nameless courtiers and Peking opera dan performers who played women more convincingly than women themselves.
