About the Artwork
Sheets of cloud lift as the Vampire Cat of Nabeshima advances, kimono skirting the wind, tails fanned like dark fans. Kunisada’s ukiyo-e grammar is exact: indigo trim, ochre patterning, vermilion shocks at the cuffs, a lavender river of obi threading the stance.
The yokai registers as bakeneko aristocrat, Saga legend set in court textiles. Wood meets knife, the keyblock draws the law of the forms, bokashi pools along the slate ground, and pigment layering steadies the pale face under wild hair.
Kozo fibers hold the cut clean. Daikokuya Heikichi anchors the edition, Edo period craft pressed into every curve. This mokuhanga print hums with theater, history, and the quiet arithmetic of claws.
