Sérusier refused perspective's seduction, instead layering horizontal bands—cream water, sienna shore, lavender-gray horizon—that echo his Talisman's lessons learned under Gauguin's direction in 1888. The Nabis circle would soon absorb this approach into Parisian decorative programs, but here the work remains rooted in Breton soil.
