Created under the Works Progress Administration during the 1930s New Deal, this Federal Art Project design promoted national park tourism through screenprint economy—flat cobalt planes, powder-blue highlights, no wasted stroke. The Big Room scale recalls Carlsbad Caverns, where speleothems grow across millennia into cathedrals of calcite. Dux reduces geologic drama to graphic shorthand: indigo shadows, periwinkle glow, figures dwarfed by subterranean architecture.
