Yoshiwara Suzume - Kitagawa Utamaro Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do. Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks.
High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones.
The matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural.
Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine, finished with ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision. Its natural white surface catches light and color with striking clarity.
A precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect.
Your choice of a black, white or natural frame: all made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts.
Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years.
Neo pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free. Meeting the strictest industry standards as defined by Oeko-Tex 100 safety applications, Residues Standard List (RSL) and the American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists.
About the Artwork
Yoshiwara Suzume by Utamaro Kitagawa catches a young odoriko mid-thought, her chin tucked into a vermilion cord knotted beneath the jaw. Yoshiwara sparrows, the old kabuki song called them: bird sellers chattering at the gates of Edo’s licensed pleasure quarter. Utamaro pulls one such voice into a close okubi-e portrait for his Tōsei Odoriko Zoroi series, cut and printed for publisher Tsutaya Jūzaburō around 1793.
Start with the hat. Sage green cloth folds into a paper-boat crest over hair combed in fine black lines and pinned with amber kanzashi. Below it a slate gray kimono scatters white birds in flight. Her fingers part a folding fan by a few ribs. Chrysanthemums bloom there in saffron and moss under drifting green clouds.
This ukiyo-e woodblock print knows its Kansei era well. Censors watched the bijin-ga trade closely. Utamaro answered with a lowered gaze and a crimson lip the size of a petal. A silvery mica ground throws theater-lamp sparkle behind her, and one sparrow of Edo keeps her song folded shut.
