Description

You're instantly transported to a whimsical Art Deco wonderland in George Barbier's Minuit from his iconic 1924 pochoir series Le Bonheur du Jour. This mesmerizing scene captures a fashionable Parisienne at the stroke of midnight, surrounded by surreal opulence.

Barbier's masterful stenciling technique brings to life a kaleidoscope of patterns and textures - from the undulating coral-hued canopy to the striped chaise lounge cradling our enigmatic muse. Her ruffled white gown and dramatic coiffure embody the height of 1920s haute couture, while playful details like a peeping Pekingese and floating butterfly infuse the composition with fantasy.

Art Nouveau flourishes mingle with bold Art Deco geometries, showcasing Barbier's pivotal role in bridging these influential movements. This exquisite framed canvas print invites you to lose yourself in a bygone era of Parisian glamour, where every element tells a story of Jazz Age decadence and artistic revolution.

About the Artist

George Barbier (1882–1932) was one of the leading French illustrators of the early 20th century. Born in Nantes, he quickly rose to prominence after his first exhibition in 1911, receiving commissions for theater and ballet costume design, book illustration, and haute couture fashion work.

Known as part of "The Knights of the Bracelet," a group lauded for their elegance, Barbier's contemporaries included his cousins Bernard Boutet de Monvel and Pierre Brissaud. Throughout his career, he also explored jewelry, glass, and wallpaper design, while contributing writings to the Gazette du Bon Ton.

Barbier worked on costume design for the Folies Bergère and gained wider recognition with his work in L'Illustration magazine. He passed away in 1932, leaving behind a legacy of sophistication and innovation in art and fashion design.
