Description

Lose yourself in the avant-garde allure of George Barbier's "Grande Robe du Soir" framed canvas. This mesmerizing Costumes Parisiens fashion illustration transports you to 1913 Paris, where haute couture reigned supreme.

Barbier's masterful illustration brings to life a statuesque figure adorned in a coral-hued robe d'intérieur, its pattern reminiscent of delicate sea fans swaying in oceanic currents. The model's lithe form, accentuated by a slender silhouette and flowing drapery, exudes effortless elegance. A striking aquamarine headband crowns her golden coiffure, echoing the ornate fishbowl stand below.

This exquisite piece showcases Barbier's unparalleled talent for blending Art Nouveau aesthetics with Japanese-inspired motifs. As you gaze upon this high-resolution reproduction, you'll be captivated by the intricate details - from the whimsical goldfish darting through crystalline waters to the rhythmic arrangement of scarlet berries adorning the backdrop.

Elevate your space with this timeless exemplar of Belle Époque artistry and fashion illustration mastery.

About the Artist

George Barbier (1882–1932) was one of the leading French illustrators of the early 20th century. Born in Nantes, he quickly rose to prominence after his first exhibition in 1911, receiving commissions for theater and ballet costume design, book illustration, and haute couture fashion work. Known as part of "The Knights of the Bracelet," a group lauded for their elegance, Barbier's contemporaries included his cousins Bernard Boutet de Monvel and Pierre Brissaud. Throughout his career, he also explored jewelry, glass, and wallpaper design, while contributing writings to the Gazette du Bon Ton. Barbier worked on costume design for the Folies Bergère and gained wider recognition with his work in L'Illustration magazine. He passed away in 1932, leaving behind a legacy of sophistication and innovation in art and fashion design.
