Evening in Soemon-cho, Osaka - Kawase Hasui Art Print

The last minute before full dark, with chochin lanterns strung along the teahouse eave burning vermillion against soot-dark timber. Kawase Hasui set Soemon-cho, Osaka under a teal-black sky in 1933, and the block-cut line still carries the hour he chose.
Two women in floral kimono cross the ochre pavement, their obi catching amber spill from a lit doorway; farther along the wooden lattice fence, a second pair pauses near a telephone pole strung with wire. Windows glow pale gold in the upper story, small proof that Osaka's old entertainment quarter kept its hours after the shops closed.
Hasui, working within the shin-hanga print revival alongside publisher Watanabe Shozaburo, built this Osaka street from bokashi gradation: ink thinning from indigo zenith to a pale jade horizon above the rooflines.
Every plank, post, and paper globe is carved, not drawn; the woodblock grain still shows through the color. Night has not settled here. It arrived mid-step, caught between lantern light and the wide, empty dark of the street ahead.

Wall Art Size Guides

Framed Art Prints

1. Vertical
Use the sawtooth hanger at the top middle on the back of the frame and hang it on a single screw or nail.

2. Horizontal
Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)
Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws
Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
