In Meynier's vision of Apollo, the laurel wreath catches the last of the amber light before it drowns in dark foliage — gold pressed into brown curls, a mark earned not worn.

The god's gaze tips skyward, jaw parted mid-oracle. Oil pigment lays each rib and deltoid with academic precision, the underpainting ghosting through at the collarbone. Old-Master darkness — raw umber, forest-black — frames him as prophecy, not portrait.

Maynier's nineteenth-century Parisian atelier trained followers to read the body as argument: this Apollo makes his in flesh-warm ivory and shadow, his torso built plane by careful plane, musculature held in the measured arrest of French Neoclassicism. One hand grips a fold of marigold-amber drapery; the other lifts the gilt kithara, its strings taut above strapped sandals braced on cold stone.

Origin Story

Charles Meynier (1763–1832) was a Parisian-born Neoclassical painter who transformed history, mythology, and imperial triumph into monumental art. Trained under engraver Pierre-Philippe Choffard and painter François-André Vincent, he placed second in the 1789 Prix de Rome — narrowly behind Girodet — before joining the Académie de France in Rome. The Revolution cut short his Italian years, but Paris proved no smaller a canvas.

Under Napoleon, Meynier rose to state commissions of striking ambition: his bas-relief designs for the Arc de Triomphe du Carrousel adorned the Tuileries' ceremonial gateway, while Marshal Ney and Entry of Napoleon into Berlin blazed across Salon walls. Apollo and the Muses, Hecuba and Campaspe — myth and empire shared his brush with equal grace. Elected to the Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1816 and appointed professor at the École des Beaux-Arts in 1819, he shaped a generation. His work rests today in the Louvre, Versailles, and Montreal.

Framed Art Prints

1. Vertical

Use the sawtooth hanger at the top middle on the back of the frame and hang it on a single screw or nail.

2. Horizontal

Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)

Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws

Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
