On this surface, bone becomes blueprint. Hokusai’s skeletal form floats in smoked ink, its contours etched with the patience of centuries. The skull grins in an unending rictus, ribs tethered to the void by sinewy arcs of line, as if suspended in a field of low thunder.
Monochrome washes ghost across the background, a handmade paper grey that recalls Edo-period scrolls. The case carries both anatomical study and macabre theatre, pulling from Japan’s ukiyo-e fascination with the transient.
