Commissioned by the Federal Security Agency for the U.S. Public Health Service, this 1940s American government health campaign poster gives its worker-hero the rounded, exaggerated anatomy of wartime commercial illustration — flesh-tone modeling that rolls from clavicle to belly in warm peach gradients, chest hair cross-hatched with the precision of mid-century print advertising.
A gray-gloved physician's hand enters the frame from the right, pressing stethoscope to skin with bureaucratic tenderness. Eyes closed, grin wide, this laboring body submits to preventive medicine as cheerfully as it would a lunch break.
Bold white condensed sans-serif type hammers the message home below him, while his polka-dotted boxer shorts — the one soft, domestic note — anchor the propaganda poster squarely in working-class American life.
