About the Artwork
A masked hawfinch grips a charcoal branch, its talons etched with Kashu’s steady hand. The bird’s head tilts toward unseen motion, black crown gleaming above a bill the color of ripe yuzu. Behind it, puffball blossoms burst—white threads radiating from emerald hearts, tipped in vermilion. They flare like summer fireworks, pausing mid-bloom, frozen in the hush between seasons.
This Meiji-era vision feels almost cinematic against the Samsung’s polished surface. Marrying Japanese kachō-e naturalism with clean, contemporary form. Kashu’s composition draws your gaze along the curve of the branch, through the geometry of feather and flower, into a suspended moment where technology meets printmaking heritage.
