About the Artwork
Emerald lacquer brims with curling lotus stems, fluttering silk streamers, coral-tinted petals and tasseled ritual objects, all sketched with Racinet’s jewel-box precision. The upper panel hums with brush-lined immortelles, cinnabar ribbons, cobalt vessels and ivory blossoms scattered like offerings on imperial brocade. Below, a sand-gold field blooms into peony rosettes flanked by cloud-borne arabesques, lapis florets and cinnabar scrolls.
Each contour, lifted from 19th-century Chinoiserie pattern books, celebrates Qing-era ornament—parade fans, scholar’s seals, porcelain finials. Layered in chromatic abundance.
