Artwork Description
A hushless tide of white chrysanthemums arches across the scene like breath caught mid-season. Their petals spiral outward in pale, obsessive rhythm—neither fractal nor chaotic—just endlessly precise, like time repeating through snowdrifts of silk. Beneath them, shadow-flecked leaves roil in dark greens and bruised blacks, curling with lacquered gravity. Their surfaces shimmer like wet ink not yet set.
The ochre field they overtake feels earthen, yet not ground. A membrane. A threshold. One side opens to pale sky; the other, perhaps, to parchment memory. This is not a garden. It is an encounter with stillness that does not wait. A vision balanced precariously between presence and vanishing, composed with the ruthless economy of rinpa: flat, floating space, form without illusion, serenity bordering on the surreal.
Sekka’s chrysanthemums do not bloom. They manifest, as if summoned from within the linen itself. Like frost from breath, like silence blooming where language fails.
