This specific woodblock print displays a collection of obi fabric strips for kimono — in a richly visual style that defined the Kyoto school revival of Rinpa style aesthetics. Bold geometric abstraction meets delicate floral motifs in a display of traditional craftsmanship and woodblock print expertise.
The artist utilized charcoal ink and ochre washes to simulate the heavy silk of authentic kimono sashes. Each captures the essence of Japanese decorative arts with its flat color planes and precise linework. This composition serves as a historical record of the textile patterns worn by the merchant classes of the Taisho era. Sekka’s vision remains a cornerstone of the Kyoto design legacy and early modern woodcut illustration.
