About the Artist

C.R.W. Nevinson (1889–1946) carved his legacy in paint and protest, fusing Futurism, Vorticism, and raw human grief into one of the most haunting bodies of war art ever created. A Slade School rebel and son of radicals, he bore witness to World War I’s machinery and mud, turning trauma into modernist masterpieces like La Mitrailleuse and Paths of Glory. Though his candor made him enemies, his canvases never lied. From London’s trenches to New York’s skylines, Nevinson captured the fractured pulse of the 20th century—equal parts soldier, visionary, and censored truth-teller in paint. His legacy remains explosive, unsettling, essential.
