Gustave Courbet’s Study of a Nude Man doesn’t linger in the mind. It prowls. The model's shoulder bulges forward in raw expectancy. Spine twisted so he can fix his eyes on you. Torso gleaming and he lunges into light as if just the act of being seen were a kink all its own. Left leg stretched, arched, flexed—dragging your eye into the crease where shadow licks thigh.
