Reclining Nude Man (1910) - Egon Schiele Art Print / Canvas
Egon Schiele slices the page in half with a long stride: one leg drenched in oxblood red, the other cast in mustard-gold, meeting at a hip barely wider than a hinge. Painted in 1910, this reclining nude man reads less like rest than momentum, legs thrown into a wide scissor that crosses nearly the full sheet on a hard diagonal.
A dark tuft of pubic hair marks the crux where the two colors collide, the only anchor point in a figure otherwise pulled apart at the joints. Both feet end abruptly in flat patches of indigo, cool against all that heat above them. Up top, the torso barely survives the crop. A shoulder wrapped in an orange-gold garment, a sliver of jaw, hair painted in a fast slash of navy: nothing more remains of the sitter's identity.
Schiele signs the sheet small and sideways near the leg's midpoint, almost an afterthought beside a composition built entirely from the tension between two mismatched limbs.
