His early twentieth-century modernist daring—bred in Carinthia’s Nötscher Kreis—sought to fracture the classical nude into something feral, flesh flayed by pigment.
The naked body arches, mouth about to open, a howl of Expressionist eroticism captured mid-stroke. Kolig, an admirer of Michelangelo and Corinth, fed that monumental intensity into living bodies, erotic yet unsentimental.
