About the Artist

Joseph Stella, born in 1877, painted with a passion that bridged two worlds—his native Italy and his adopted America. Every flower he sketched was more than a study of nature; it was a memory, a longing, a thread between past and present.

His fascination with exotic plants, cultivated in the Bronx Botanical Garden, spilled into his imagined visions of Naples, where palm fronds and coastal light vibrated like the notes of an old Neapolitan song.
