Schiele’s hand placement speaks plainly of erotic urgency, while his tilted head and hollow eyes capture exhaustion, alienation, and defiance of academic portrait tradition. The Expressionist line becomes contour and wound simultaneously, reshaping the male body into emblem of modern anxiety.
