Egon Schiele draws this man face down and seen from below, so the body rises toward the viewer like a slope built entirely of graphite. Buttocks and lower back form the sheet's highest point. Knees splay wide behind a foreshortened torso, calves and heels tapering into loose, half-finished marks near the sheet's lower corners.
Pencil lines swarm across skin and fabric alike, describing rumpled cloth pulled over one shoulder in the same nervous stroke used for the spine beneath it. Dark hair drops in a short wedge over a bowed, hidden head; no face interrupts the mass of contour.
A single patch of orange, solid and flat, marks fabric caught at one ankle, standing alone until a cluster of vermilion and moss green appears again at a clasped hands gathered against the groin. Everything else stays bare buff stock, spotted with age at the corners. The steep angle collapsing distance into a single climbing shape, a body drawn as though schiele was eroticizing raw structural evidence.
