Description

A garden sewn into darkness, each stitch a vow between silk and shadow. Matthew Digby Wyatt’s embroidery spills over the Samsung case in curling vines and clustered blooms, their petals flushed with persimmon, rose, and marigold. 

Gold threads map an endless lattice, enclosing blossoms in jewel-toned chambers where pistils shimmer like guarded embers. Leaves unfold in sage and olive, cupping flowers heavy with imagined scent, while fine tendrils knot the pattern into a hypnotic whole.

The black background deepens every hue, lending the florals a pulse of warmth, as though the design were lit from within by lamplight caught in brocade. Its precision and warmth suggesting both museum textile and living plant.

About the Artist

Sir Matthew Digby Wyatt, born in 1820 in Wiltshire, was a Victorian-era architectural polymath whose influence spanned design, engineering, and education.

Known for his work with Isambard Kingdom Brunel at Paddington Station and his role in designing the India Office, Wyatt left a lasting mark on Britain's architectural landscape. His celebrated book, "The Industrial Arts of the Nineteenth Century," showcased his love for design, turning it into a chromolithographic spectacle.

As the first Slade Professor at Cambridge, Wyatt reshaped British art education, and as Secretary of the Great Exhibition, he brought Victorian innovation to the world stage. His eclectic creations, from country manors to train cars, epitomized the flamboyant spirit of the 19th century, blending diverse styles into enduring masterpieces.
