This ignudo coils in retreat, yet leaves nothing concealed. His spine ripples like volcanic parchment, scorched in ochre and shadow. Michelangelo grants him no cloak of virtue, only taut skin and an impossible twist. As if turning from doctrine itself.
Locked in sidelong glare, his face neither submits nor seduces. One hand anchors against the cushion’s knot while the other floats, uncertain, half-dismissal, half-defense. Drapery slouches behind him in Tyrian maroon and imperial green. Vatican colors borrowed by pagan muscle.
