Artwork Description
Kabuki lives again through slick bellies and silk sleeves. These frogs swagger through a paper-blue haze of woodblock ink, eyes bulbous with conviction, legs frozen mid-pantomime. Each amphibian dons actor’s garb: striped hakama, patterned yukata, tied obi—costume as identity, gesture as declaration.
Kuniyoshi stages a riotous cast: swords drawn in half-truth, fans flourished like accusations, lovers entangled in frogspawned tragedy. Every toe is curled in performance, every croak a line delivered to the gods of comedy and vengeance.
