About this Artwork
The great pyramid of Giza fractures light, devours scale, disorients reason. Adrien Dauzats, traveling Egypt under Baron Taylor’s eye, painted this composition in 1830 with the same precision Pharaohs demanded from quarrymen. Granite blocks tilt in dusty procession, each stair too vast for a single stride, each shade a memory from prehistory.
A figure clambers upward, not as hero but as punctuation. His linen robe the only curve in a field of ochre angles. Above him, birds draw invisible hieroglyphs into the turquoise firmament; to the right, the crescent moon leans away from Earth’s arrogance.
