Bodies interlocked in a ladder of thrust and submission, faces half-smiling as if caught between laughter and doctrine.
Behind them, the countryside lies emptied of virtue: one fence, one tree, a hint of habitation fading into dry horizon. This is not romance but method. The print documents pleasure as inquiry, anatomy as argument.
Published under false imprint, it carried philosophy disguised as filth. The sparse tree, the leaning roofline, the barren ground — all whisper complicity between nature and desire. In its stark candor, this engraving strips illusion of virtue until only appetite’s logic endures.
