Description

Gallop into vintage charm with this sepia-toned equestrian print. Gerard Barnett's masterful watercolor captures a noble steed's visage atop a hitching post, evoking 1930s Americana. The horse's alert eye and flared nostrils breathe life into rust-hued strokes, while the post's fluted column anchors the composition.

Barnett's deft brushwork delineates every wisp of mane and contour of muscle, transforming utilitarian outdoor fixtures into objets d'art. This illustrated gem will transport your walls to a bygone era of clip-clopping hooves and brass rings. Rustic yet refined, it's the perfect conversation starter for entryways or studies.

Saddle up your decor with this timeless tribute to equine elegance and rural ingenuity. Your space will neigh with delight at this artful blend of form and function, straight from America's storied past.

About the Artist

This artist was a contributor to the Index of American Design. A program of the Federal Art Project that produced a detailed pictorial survey of the crafts and decorative arts in the United States. Between 1935 and 1942, around 400 artists contributed to the creation of 18,257 watercolor drawings, which are now housed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The collection aimed to document American decorative and folk arts, capturing cultural heritage more as archival record than personal artistic expression. The Index's objective was to establish a contextual foundation for American art and design by documenting crafts and objects created between the colonial era and the late 19th century. Among the outcomes of this vast endeavor was Clarence Hornung's "Treasury of American Design," and it also served as an employment program, providing jobs for about a thousand individuals across 34 states.
