Artwork Description
Astaroth surges from an 18th-century grimoire page, all ram horns, bone ridges, charcoal mane, and ember eyes, the body mottled like lizard hide under a verdigris serpent collar. Another snake cinches the waist; forked tongues flare.
One limb shows rust-red human musculature ending in a hoof; the partner limb wears shaggy caprine hair and slate hoof. Umber pelt sleeves bristle over the shoulders.
Inked German hands circled the border with allies and threats. Watercolor washes stain the paper with ochre undertone, iron-gall linework, and thin gouache lifts. Compendium rarissimum totius Artis Magicae anchors the scene: Enlightenment demonology, bestiary taxonomy, occult manuscript magick and chimera logic fuse in this creepy cute study of Astaroth's jaunty figure.
