About the Artist

Raoul Dufy (1877–1953) painted the world in bright orchestras of line and color, turning sunlight into song. Born in Le Havre, he journeyed from Impressionist whispers to Fauvist blaze, then refined a modernist shorthand of skeletal structures and translucent washes. His art immortalized regattas, Riviera promenades, and elegant gatherings—France in perpetual fête. Beyond canvas, he designed textiles for Paul Poiret, illustrated Mallarmé and Apollinaire, and draped electricity itself across 600 square meters in La Fée Electricité (1937). Even as arthritis bound his hands, Dufy fastened brushes to his fingers, proof that beauty, like current, cannot be stilled.
