Unnatural History - Alien Insect Vanitas Art Print
Couldn't load pickup availability
Somewhere a natural history museum drawer sits empty under a blank label, its tenant grown too large for the cabinet. This neo-Baroque alien insect is the escapee, a weirdcore entomology print raised in the cabinet of curiosities tradition. It holds the spread-winged pose Maria Sibylla Merian gave her Surinam moths in 1705.
Read the specimen top down, the way Linnaeus logged a weevil. Twin pairs of jointed feelers rise first, then a helmeted head with goggle eyes domed in rivets. Blued-steel plates stack down the abdomen toward stilted legs testing a verdigris shelf. The upper wings are milk-glass panes leaded in flamingo capillaries. The lower pair swell into clear sacs of apricot eggs. While tarnished bronze scarabs patrol one corner. And a lone indigo blossom hides among straw-dry florets, and thorned fruit glows tangerine against bitumen shadow.
Nothing here has a Latin name yet. And around the brood mother, the vanitas still life props wilt on cue. A cream dahlia sags over the ledge. Shell-pink buds, tulip-shaped, still carry the fever of 1637 tulip mania. Two persimmon seed pods bristle at the creature's feet among bone-pale tendrils. Oil-glaze chiaroscuro, rebuilt in pixels, keeps every surface wet.
Hang it where guests expect a butterfly. Call it speculative biology under tenebrist lighting, laid down by a digital brush trained on Old Master varnish.

Framed Art Prints

1. Vertical
Use the sawtooth hanger at the top middle on the back of the frame and hang it on a single screw or nail.

2. Horizontal
Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)
Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws
Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
