About the Artwork
Nevinson doesn't paint the sea—he scores it. These waves are chiseled from velocity, each arc a symphony of blunt force slowed to etching. There's no horizon here, no lighthouse or sky, only cyclonic intent rendered in Prussian dusk and storm-bled ivory.
Crestlines curl like flint blades honed by repetition. This is not surf. It’s memory. The gouache clings to its turbulence like a man to ritual. Born from the optical rigor of Vorticism and the print traditions of British wartime art, The Wave flattens sound into pattern, fury into repetition.
