Julius Paulsen’s The Shooter ignites across this phone case with rough-hewn strokes of ochre, carmine, and olive shadow, shaping a nude male figure mid-draw with his bow.

The paint feels immediate, almost still wet, layering muscular tension and atmospheric haze. Against a muddied backdrop, limbs flare in fractured light, flesh modeled through quick dabs rather than polish, anchoring the work in late 19th-century Danish realism’s drift toward modernist looseness.

Paulsen, often aligned with Nordic Symbolism, wove corporeal struggle with allegorical undertone, and here the taut arc of the bow doubles as emblem of primal focus. The case transforms his canvas into a handheld artifact, fusing artistry, athleticism, and mythic resonance.
