About the Artist

Frédéric Bazille—Montpellier-born, Paris-drenched—was the tender interloper of French Impressionism, fusing anatomical precision with plein air provocation.

A medical student turned sensual alchemist, he painted sun-splashed nudes, figural ecstasy in pastoral drag. His brush trafficked in myth-drenched musculature, homoerotic tension, and the collision of classical form with modern light.
