Seated Riffian - Henri Matisse Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do.
Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks. High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones. While the matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural. Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine. And your artwork is protected behind ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision, catching light and color with striking clarity. While a precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect. Finished with your choice of frame color — black, white or natural — made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts. Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years. And the neo-pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free.
About the Artwork
He crosses his forearms over his knees, plants both yellow slippers on a coral-red floor and settles in for the sitting. Henri Matisse hangs ochre and jade stripes behind him and leaves one panel of cobalt open at his shoulder. The hooded robe is the djellaba, the everyday cloak of men in the northern mountains, cut wide enough to sit in and warm enough for the cold of the Rif.
The Rif is the mountain country behind Morocco's northern coast, and the sitter brings it into Tangier in the cut of his cloak: a deep hood, a wide collar and sleeves that fall open at the wrist. Tassels and small embroidered flowers in red, yellow and blue run down the front.
Matisse painted this on his second stay, which began in October 1912, and he places the crossed forearms at the center of the canvas so that every stripe behind the man points up toward his face. The beard is a scatter of jade strokes, and the eyes meet you straight on. The floor is scrubbed on thin, so the weave shows through the coral.
Seated Riffian awaits your study or living room as a Fauvist portrait, where a man in a mountain cloak sits as steady as the wall behind him.
