Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness - Caravaggio Art Print

Caravaggio's Saint John the Baptist in the Wilderness — painted in Rome around 1604 — arrives without ceremony. A stripped adolescent body absorbs the only light available, skin shading from ivory at the collarbone to amber shadow across the ribs. Dry ochre-yellow foliage crowds the upper right, not as decoration but as termination — the world ending where the light does.
Seventeenth-century devotional painting expected the Baptist to signal outward — toward sky, lamb, or covenant. Caravaggio's version seals inward. The Baroque Italian master, working in fugitive circumstances between patrons and legal catastrophe, strips the Forerunner of every conventional attribute: no halo crowns his auburn curls, no lamb presses against his shin. What remains is a young man with a reed staff and a weight that settles behind his eyes.
The crimson-lake drapery sprawling across his thighs reads less as apostolic cloth than as something carelessly inhabited — a body at rest in the Jordan wilderness, the camel-skin textile knotted at his hip the sole prophetic marker. Caravaggio's tenebrism burns the bituminous ground into absolute dark, making flesh the painting's only argument.

Framed Art Prints

1. Vertical
Use the sawtooth hanger at the top middle on the back of the frame and hang it on a single screw or nail.

2. Horizontal
Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)
Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws
Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
