About the Artwork
Robert Delaunay's Rythme, Joie de vivre arrests motion itself in overlapping concentric circles... imagining your eyes might mistake this phone case for music. Delaunay never painted sound, yet his Orphism insists color sings—cadmium yellow as soprano, ultramarine bass, vermillion tenor sustaining harmonic intensity.
The overlapping concentric circles function like a chromatic staff, each ring a note in unresolved chord progression. Curved bands in forest green and cream introduce dissonance; black outlines cut like rests that structure the visual fugue. This modernist abstract painting renounces all pretense—no landscape, no figure lurking beneath. The rotational composition's lower-left vortex doesn't pull downward but invites listening.
Kinetic movement unfolds as pure sensation, simultaneous contrast creating optical polyphony where each hue vibrates against neighbors through deliberate outline placement. Delaunay's title, Rythme, Joie de vivre, means joy exists in color alone, in the mutual dance of warm and cool. On this phone case, the accelerated abstract painting becomes a portable companion, a riot of rotating warmth and cool that refuses stasis, mirroring the rhythm of life itself pressing forward.
