Resting Caravan - Arnold Genthe Art Print

Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do.

Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks. High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones. While the matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.

Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.

Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural. Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine. And your artwork is protected behind ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.

Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision, catching light and color with striking clarity. While a precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect. Finished with your choice of frame color — black, white or natural — made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine.

Giclée Printing

By dawn the loads will go back on, but tonight the camels rest. Arnold Genthe stood off to one side to capture this moment and let slate cloud take two thirds of the print, lending this Moroccan vision the scale and scope of an epic tale. Two hooded men bend over the camel's bundles at the right and one saddled animal waits at the left for its turn.

Walls of this pattern recall the angled bastions Portuguese engineers raised along Morocco's Atlantic shore in the sixteenth century, and the garrison towns behind them became ports where inland caravans unloaded. And caravans like this one linked Morocco's walled towns long before motor roads, and a halt like this one belonged to the town ahead, whose souk would take the loads off the camels' backs. Tufts of dark turf break the packed earth in front. The bare strips between them show where hooves and sandals have passed.

A dromedary can walk for days between waterings, which is why a caravan can afford the open ground this wall faces. Birds perch along the crest. The sky is thin pewter, and the rough stone carries the same dry tone as the animals' hides. The silver-gray negative keeps every notch of the battlements and a string of birds along the crest below a single dome. Grain gives the grass a dry tooth. The men offer only two hoods and a shoulder, which makes the animals the sitters. Genthe, a philologist turned San Francisco portraitist, treats them that way.

Resting Caravan awaits your study or studio as a slate-sky travel photograph documenting a bygone era, where the day's march is over and the room can finally settle.
