Moroccan in Green (Standing Riffian) - Henri Matisse Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do.
Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks. High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones. While the matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural. Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine. And your artwork is protected behind ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision, catching light and color with striking clarity. While a precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect. Finished with your choice of frame color — black, white or natural — made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts. Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years. And the neo-pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free.
About the Artwork
The Standing Riffian steps into the room in his best green robe. And Henri Matisse, who came to Tangier for a few weeks in October and stayed all summer, reaches for his brushes. Every stitch is already there: the ladder of red, yellow and blue tassels down the chest, the small flowers sewn at the neck and cuffs, the mustard cap set high. Matisse copies them faithfully and saves his invention for everything else.
So the walls turn lavender on the left and aqua on the right, two flat fields with no shadow and no furniture. Matisse had seen the great Islamic art exhibition in Munich in 1910, and he knew how a tiled wall and a stitched cloak can fill a surface with color instead of depth. Against those clean planes the robe blazes in thick teal strokes. The Riffian rises tall in it, white-rimmed eyes level with yours.
It is the winter of 1912. Tangier is a port of consuls, merchants and painters, and the Rif mountains of northern Morocco have sent one of their own to pose before a European easel. He becomes the picture's whole event. The green holds him up, and his gaze holds the room. Moroccan in Green awaits your living room or bedroom as a Fauvist portrait of kaleidoscopic intrigue, where the walls fall back and the man steps forward as eminence and enigma.
