Description

This stunning iPhone case features George Ashdown Audsley’s Japanese Autumn Flowers, a radiant ode to 19th-century Japonisme. Against a deep black backdrop, delicate white blossoms and golden-yellow blooms intertwine with crimson maple leaves (momiji), evoking autumn’s fleeting beauty. The gilded branches, framed by a gentle golden stippling, mirror the ethereal shimmer of maki-e lacquerwork, capturing the interplay of light and shadow.

Rooted in Edo-period aesthetics, this botanical arrangement symbolizes impermanence and seasonal transitions, blending Kacho-ga’s reverence for nature with Victorian chromolithographic precision. The serrated maple leaves add dynamic movement, while soft floral tones exude tranquility.

Audsley’s design bridges cultures, reflecting the West’s fascination with Japanese art during the Meiji era. Ideal for art lovers, this case transforms timeless craftsmanship into a portable masterpiece, celebrating the harmonious dance of renewal and decay. Perfect for showcasing refined elegance in everyday life.

About the Artist

George Ashdown Audsley (1838–1925) was a Scottish architect, artist, and writer renowned for his contributions to art and design. In partnership with his brother, William, he established the firm W. & G. Audsley, which designed notable Gothic Revival churches and eclectic synagogues in Liverpool and London.

Audsley was a prolific author, producing lavishly illustrated works on ornamentation and Japanese art, such as The Keramic Art of Japan (1875), co-authored with James Lord Bowes.

His expertise extended to pipe organ design; he conceived the organ for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, later installed as the Wanamaker Organ in Philadelphia.

Audsley's interdisciplinary talents significantly influenced both Western appreciation of Japanese aesthetics and advancements in architectural design.
