Origin Story

This artist was a contributor to the Index of American Design. A program of the Federal Art Project that produced a detailed pictorial survey of the crafts and decorative arts in the United States.

Between 1935 and 1942, around 400 artists contributed to the creation of 18,257 watercolor drawings, which are now housed at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. The collection aimed to document American decorative and folk arts, capturing cultural heritage more as archival record than personal artistic expression.

The Index's objective was to establish a contextual foundation for American art and design by documenting crafts and objects created between the colonial era and the late 19th century. Among the outcomes of this vast endeavor was Clarence Hornung's "Treasury of American Design," and it also served as an employment program, providing jobs for about a thousand individuals across 34 states.

2. Horizontal

Hang the two sawtooth hangers on two screws or nails at the same heightPut two screws or nails in the wall at the same height, spaced the same distance apart as the two sawtooth hangers, then hang your print on them.

Framed Canvas

1. D-rings (most secure)

Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws

Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
