About This Artwork
Horizontal bands of sepia ink and pale ochre wash carry Paul Klee's Cooling in a Hot Zone Garden onto this phone case. The 1924 watercolor conjures his 1914 Tunisia expedition through linear abstraction and pictographic plant-forms arranged like cuneiform on clay tablets.
Charcoal fronds arch and sway; teardrop shapes hang suspended in pale cadmium glow. Klee's Bauhaus-era mark-making alternates between childlike stick-figures and angular runes, borrowing the vocabulary of Berber textiles and medieval herbals. Mauve undertones ghost through cream paper while X-marks stitch the composition like stitched seams in linen.
Each band carries its own temperature—cooler at top, flushed with amber heat below. The picture plane becomes horticultural grammar: stalks, bulbs, and feathered leaves suspended in desert-garden reverie.
