Dive into the coral depths with this exquisite Luigi Balugani fine art print of a Caribbean red snapper. This 18th-century Italian's meticulous brushwork captures the fish's rosy hues and gleaming scales, a testament to his scientific precision honed during African expeditions.

Balugani's keen eye for ichthyological detail shines through, from the snapper's distinctive dorsal fin to its alert, glassy eye. The fish seems to swim across the cream-colored backdrop, suspended in time and space.

This print transcends mere decoration, offering you a slice of marine biology history. Balugani's work bridges art and science, making it perfect for lovers of natural history, maritime enthusiasts, or anyone seeking to add a touch of underwater elegance to their walls. Own a piece of the Age of Exploration, when artists like Balugani were unveiling nature's wonders to European eyes.

This snapper, typically found in warm Caribbean waters, now swims into your home,  bringing with it the legacy of a Bologna-born prodigy whose life's work continues to captivate centuries later.

Origin Story

Luigi Balugani, born in 1737 in Bologna, was an 18th-century Italian artist whose work bridged botany, architecture, and zoology.

Trained under Giuseppe Civoli at the Accademia Clementina, Balugani’s talent led him to accompany Scottish explorer James Bruce on a journey across Africa. There, Balugani documented the continent's flora, fauna, and landscapes with meticulous detail. His sketches, capturing everything from exotic flowers to ancient temples, reflect both artistic precision and scientific curiosity.

Though his life ended in 1770, Balugani’s natural history legacy endures, with works held in prestigious collections like Yale's Center for British Art, blending exploration, science, and art into timeless visual storytelling.

How to Hang your Artwork

1. D-rings (most secure)

Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

How to Hang your Artwork

2. Straight onto screws

Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
