Berber Bride - Josep Tapiro Baro Art Print
About the Wall Art
Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do.
Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks. High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones. While the matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.
Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.
Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural. Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine. And your artwork is protected behind ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.
Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision, catching light and color with striking clarity. While a precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect. Finished with your choice of frame color — black, white or natural — made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified knotless pine.
Giclée Printing

Forget 4 color CMYK. Giclée layers up to 12 — alive with deeper shadows, richer highlights and multidimensional contrasts. Pro-lab printing process helps art stay bold & breathtaking for up to 100 years. And the neo-pigment, water-based inks are 100% non-hazardous and toxin-free.
About the Artwork
A bride sits for her portrait in a studio that used to be a theater. Josep Tapiró Baró settled in Tangier in 1876 and later turned an old playhouse into his workroom, and the whole production here is one woman: white tulle falling from a striped crown, a heavy gold hoop pulling at one ear, a crescent pendant resting low on yellow silk.
He builds her the way she was dressed, in layers. Transparent watercolor goes down first, so the tulle lets indigo and saffron silk glow through its embroidered red berries. Then come the opaque touches of gouache that turn a dab of paint into a gold medallion stamped with an eight-pointed star. Dusty gray paper shows around her, flecked where wet pigment pooled.
Everything on her was arranged by other hands. Only her face is left alone: dark eyes under heavy lids, a faint frown, black curls slipping from a green fringe. Tapiró stayed in Tangier for the rest of his life, in a port where Spanish, Jewish, Amazigh and Arab families shared the markets. And Berber Bride is an Orientalist portrait of a face held still while every ornament catches the light. Hang it in a living room or bedroom, where a bride dressed to be looked at spends the evening looking back.
