Born Alphonse Joseph Bichard in Rambouillet, he trained under Edmond Hédouin and Léon Gaucherel, the latter shaping his mastery of engraving. In the 1880s and 1890s, championed by Octave Uzanne, he flourished in Paris’s publishing scene, collaborating with Luc-Olivier Merson, Ernest Ange Duez, and Georges Cain on sumptuous illustrated editions. He signed “Géry-Bichard” most often, leaving behind a refined, quietly enduring legacy.
