An Académie from the French School, a nineteenth-century academic nude in the life-study tradition, presents a warrior figure type half turned from us: back bared, head angled sharp into profile. Curls break loose beneath a tan-gold peaked cap, and a close beard traces the jaw held toward some point past the canvas edge.

Anatomy stays bare of drapery here, the only prop a warrior's own gear: spear and shield. A long spear crosses the right shoulder along a diagonal spear line, gripped tight; the left hand steadies the shield low against the hip. Weight settles into a braced stance, two legs planted wide across a shadowed studio floor.

Academic study of this kind trained the eye on volume and reflected light as much as figure. Like the rose flesh along the shoulder blades cooling into umber shadow down the spine. The kind of tonal shift Ecole des Beaux-Arts instructors demanded from every pupil facing a model stand. The model's face giving nothing away. Only the jaw, lit faintly, turning toward the near-black drapery that swallows the rest of the room. Paint remembering every scrape across that shield's beaten gold edge, worn thin by a life imagined before the studio.

Screw a D-ring onto the back of the frame on the left and right, both at the same height. A ruler helps here. Then put two screws in the wall where you want your canvas, level with each other and spaced the same distance apart as the D-rings. A spirit level makes this easier. Finally, hook the D-rings onto the screws.

2. Straight onto screws

Keep it simple: put two screws in the wall at the same height and rest the inner lip at the top of the back of the frame on them.
