Two Cranes - Ohara Koson Art Print

Fine Art Prints

Forget cheap reproductions and printable posters. Only the best will do. Velvety matte fine art paper (warm white, archival-grade, 200gsm) with bold, vibrant, non-toxic pigment inks.

High-definition print lab techniques give you sharper details, deeper saturation and true-to-life tones.

The matte surface keeps glare down and archival-grade materials mean the colors you fall for stay vivid for decades.

Framed Fine Art Prints

Your print arrives framed and ready to hang, so it goes straight from the box to your wall.

Chevron cut wooden frames make a timeless statement in three distinctive colors: black, white and natural.

Each frame is made of sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine, finished with ultra-clear perspex glaze that’s lighter than glass and shatter-resistant.

Float Framed Canvas Prints

Luscious artist-grade cotton canvas, hand-stretched and finely textured, gives every detail depth and precision. Its natural white surface catches light and color with striking clarity.

A precisely measured floating frame leaves a slim gap around the canvas, so it seems to hover with a sleek, gallery-worthy effect.

Your choice of a black, white or natural frame: all made from sustainably sourced FSC® certified European knotless pine.

Giclée Printing

One crane throws its throat to the apricot sky and calls. The other bends low, beak tipped toward the shallows, listening with its whole spine. Ohara Koson designed this mated pair of red-crowned cranes for Watanabe Shōzaburō’s shin-hanga studio sometime between 1925 and 1936, signing as Shōson above a vermilion seal.

By the 1920s Japan had nearly lost its red-crowned crane. Hunting and drained marshland left a handful wintering in Hokkaido’s Kushiro wetlands. Koson, the Kanazawa-born painter, answered that scarcity with a pair returned to full ceremony.

Japanese reeds slant across the upper sheet in sage-green strokes, wind-combed and loose. Below them, bokashi gradation melts peach dusk into seafoam teal water. Thin ripples circle each gray, knuckled leg. Every white feather on those backs is a small scalloped line, cut into a cherry woodblock by a carver working from Koson’s brush drawing.

Japanese folklore grants the tanchō a thousand years and one partner for all of them. Those vermilion crown patches sit like two wax seals on a marriage contract. Koson’s kachō-e found eager buyers across Europe and America, and this Two Cranes Ohara Koson art print carries that bird-and-flower devotion home as Japanese wall art, one throat open to the sky and one bill touching water.
